Baldaya
Description
The intervention starts from the implantation of the buildings in an east-west longitudinal direction – offering, from the outset, adequate sun exposure to all dwellings – and from the adjustment of this preferential implantation to the main constraints (presence of water and future metro) and to the built surroundings.
The buildings are presented as a collage of two scales that are very characteristic of Benfica – such as large housing bars and small basement volumes, also illustrated by the juxtaposition of two materialities. The ground floor and the bodies that are assumed at the tops of the bars, are identified by the use of brick, these volumes being associated with the tertiary program. The upper blocks, which are presented as a system of repetition and prefabrication, are characterized by concrete and metal, hosting the housing program.
As they inflect, the blocks create pockets of permanence in the areas of greatest expansion and more direct routes in the canal areas, in a relay of experiences throughout the public space.
In the relationship between the outer space and the new buildings, an implantation that refers to the geometry of the construction is sought. Constituting a structure of a matrix character in clear reference to a productive pattern, of agricultural origin, permeable, communitarian and that allows to recover not only the productive value of the soil as the capacity of water management and its local reuse for irrigation uses or simply its retention and subsequent infiltration.
