Casa no Junqueiro

Description

Inserted in a housing complex of single-family houses, Casa no Junqueiro stands out for its volume and materiality – a massive mineral body that rests elegantly on the land.

Accessing the plot from the northeast, the entrance to the house is framed by a transitional courtyard, defined by an overhanging wall. It’s a “fresh” patio, in the Mediterranean tradition, with monochrome tiled walls and a landscaped water feature.

At the back of the house is the swimming pool and garden, in a sunnier quadrant protected from the street. Under a canopy and cantilevered balcony, the openings are entirely made of glass, from outside to outside. The relationship with the sea view is generous from the level of the garden, on the floor that accommodates the daytime areas of the house, but it becomes especially intense from the level of the 1st floor balconies, onto which the bedrooms open.

Finally, this visual relationship with the surroundings is superb from the flat roof, which can be accessed by both an external metal staircase and an elevator.

In order to safeguard the ample garden space, parking is in the basement, along with the technical and storage areas, accessible from a gentle ramp to the northwest.

In terms of materials, the house is made of exposed structural concrete on the outside, with the formwork texture marked out in herringbone, which is expected to give it a strong mineral and weather-resistant presence. The window frames are made of polished natural anodized aluminium, with a stainless steel effect, allowing the interior space of the house to be visually extended to the garden and sea views.
